I am a midlands-based artist who works mainly with textiles. The majority of pieces I make have a strong connection with my family and childhood, which are strong and prominent memories that I have.

I work with wool, but the process is more important to me than the finished piece, because my grandma bought me my first knitting needles and wool and taught me how to knit. This is a fond memory for me. Embroidery is a process that is important to me because this is a skill that I know my mum to have, as she has made numerous cross stich and gifts for me as a child.

Feminism and gender stereotype are both common themes that run through my work. I take my own family dynamic and place it into a stereotypical family stencil and look at the similarities, this is where my work then stems from. I use other people’s opinions on gender stereotype as well as my own, this is mainly information I pull from the internet and social media from anonymous sources.

When creating my work, I purposely make ‘comfortable’ objects such as cushions and slippers so that the viewer can make a connection within their own childhood. I prefer to create my pieces from scratch, rather than using a ‘ready-made’ piece, this is because the home-made feel is a vital component within my work.
